Ruby’s Story

On December 25, 2021, at only 19 months old, Ruby was diagnosed with Leukemia.  Exactly 3 years from the date that her older brother Luke was diagnosed at the age of 8.  Lindsey Hayworth had found out she was pregnant with Ruby just 3 weeks after Luke achieved remission following his nine hard months of chemotherapy treatments. 

As you can only imagine, following such a difficult time for parents Lindsey and Jason, Ruby was the absolute best surprise and they called her their “rainbow after the storm”.  Ruby has been nothing but sunshine since the day she was born.  She has a smile that draws everyone in and she absolutely soaks up the attention she receives.  Her sweet, silly, smart and engaging personality is captivating.  With 2 big brothers she keeps very busy!  She learned how to walk and immediately started to run.  Her signature move is the “super girl” where she runs with her arms straight behind her back. She loves playing peekaboo and is constantly blowing kisses.  She loves her big brothers Luke (11) Toby (7) and her family fiercely. 

After her Christmas Day diagnosis of a high-risk form of Leukemia, Ruby spent 5 days in the ICU followed by another 50 day stay as an inpatient at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.  She is stable enough to return home, however she is currently undergoing very intense chemo treatments that will continue on for the next two years. 

Her older brother Luke will finally be completing his treatments this April.  It seems unfathomable and beyond cruel that she too must fight this battle.  Lindsey and Jason know that their little girl is strong and with many prayers and love pouring on to her, she will beat this.  Love wins!
